Parliamentary Questions

Independent MP, Dr. Elizabeth Kerekere, champion for the funeral debt issue, asked the Government what was happening with their Review of Death, Funerals, Burial and Cremation.  In short:  "Not much".

Interviewed by the Spinoff a few weeks later, Deputy P.M. the Hon Carmel Supuloni stated she had no idea how much the average cost of a funeral was.   Not bad for a Minister for Social Development who has been offered a briefing on the subject on numerous occasions.

Parliamentary Presentation

On Thursday the 22nd September we presented MPs with 120 cardboard coffins infomation packs.  Thanks to the party representatives who attended the event, theDeath Without Debt supporters who made the cardboard coffins and everyone who was there on the day.

The MPs were:

Damian Smith  deputy leader of ACT

Ian McKelvie, National

Ricardo Menendez March, Greens

Terisa Ngobi, Labour was unable to make it and her replacement, Anahila Kanongata'a-Suisuiki was unable to get out of select committee.

Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, Te Pati Maori, was unable to get out of select committee.

Labour failed to show, despite all 65 MP's declaring pre-election, that they intended to address poverty and to listen to people's concerns about the issue.
